Journalists must remain vigilant, even in tough economy, AP chief tells KPA members

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Journalists should be willing to fight for strong laws protecting open access to government even as the news industry struggles in a weak economy, the top executive of The Associated Press said in a speech to a Kentucky newspaper organization Friday.

Tom Curley, chief executive of the AP, said that strong open-access laws are important items in the “journalistic tool kit,” but that journalists have often taken them for granted. Read the rest of this entry

Larry Vaught named Kentucky Sportswriter of the Year

Former Courier-Journal editor wins MLK Freedom Award

Mervin R. Aubespin has been named the 2010 recipient of Louisville’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Award. Aubespin is a former editor and reporter for the Louisville Courier-Journal , and a past president of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Ben Sheroan named editor of The News-Enterprise

A Vine Grove native has been selected as editor of The News-Enterprise.

Ben Sheroan, who began his journalism career at the newspaper in 1974, assumed the editor’s position Monday.
